FedEx Ground Automated Sorting Facility
The FedEx Ground Automated Sorting Facility in St. Petersburg, FL is now up and running, allowing FedEx Ground to increase capacity, improve efficiency, and expedite delivery to its customers.
The 240,000 SF facility is strategically located on a 62-acre former landfill, which required several unique construction features to accommodate the building. These features included deep dynamic compaction, over 1,700 driven precast concrete piers, a 12” thick structural concrete floor slab, and a methane gas mitigation system. The remaining building structure consists of concrete tilt-up wall panels and a conventional steel roof structure. The building contains advanced material handling equipment to automatically scan and sort packages, as well as supporting functions for operations.
