Cleanroom Completed for Catalent
ARCO / Murray Construction Company announced today the completion of a new Pilot Lab cleanroom for Catalent Pharma Solutions in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The cleanroom, which will be used for Research and Development purposes, was added onto an existing cleanroom space. The room was constructed from adjacent technical space in order to eliminate disruptions to ongoing operations. Airtight temporary barriers were also used to protect the existing cleanroom space from dust and debris.
The walls of the Pilot Lab were constructed with metal framing and drywall partitions. A walkable ceiling system was used to reduce disruptions associated with any future maintenance on the light fixtures and HVAC equipment. A bi-parting stainless steel door was installed and interlocked with the other existing cleanroom doors to maintain designed pressure differentials. A terrazzo floor was placed onto the existing floor slab and the walls were coated with an epoxy paint to withstand frequent cleanings with highly acidic solutions. The bottom half of the walls also received fiberglass reinforced panels and ultra high molecular weight wall guards to protect them against damage from ongoing operations.
“Creating the R&D Pilot Lab was a rewarding experience considering all the potential life-saving medications that may be developed in that very space throughout the future,” said Matthew Stevenson, ARCO / Murray Project Manager.
