iFly recently opened their new 57’ tall indoor skydiving facility in the growing entertainment area around Topgolf and Bass Pro Shops in Tampa. The 6,500 SF facility features a 15’ diameter flight chamber providing a safe and reliable environment for flight to everyone, whether you are age 3 or 103.
The unique skydiving experience is provided by a closed loop wind tunnel capable of generating wind speeds up to 175 mph through the flight chamber. The wind speeds are generated through four 350 HP automated fans with a Variable Frequency Drive system. The air recirculates through the closed loop wind tunnel using turning vanes that are cooled by a 160-ton chilled water system to maintain a constant air temperature.
The building structure around the wind tunnel consists of concrete tilt-up wall panels above grade and cast-in-place concrete walls below grade to a depth of 20’. The structure also contains multiple mezzanines for support and access to equipment.
iFly teamed with ARCO/Murray Construction Company to build the facility. The project started in March 2016 and opened to the public in November 2016.
